In a Tiny Town

Vacant land can be sustainably developed for affordable housing.

Objectives

In a nutshell, our objective is to increase the availability of affordable housing, by creating a network of Tiny Towns where THOWs can legally exist.

We believe a national plan with guidelines that ensure consistent construction and operation of all Tiny Towns is a sensible way to implement this objective.

When a municipality amends bylaws to accommodate tiny homes and makes the commitment to support the development of a Tiny Town, they are leveraging the most economical way available to increase affordable housing.

The Tiny Town Association's plans are to:

  • Build Tiny Towns within commuting distance of key cities across Canada.
  • Use a modular design so that each town can expand as demand increases.
  • Incorporate sustainable resources using the latest technologies to lessen environmental imapct.
  • Use medium housing densities to provide common space as well as green space.
  • Build common areas into each "neighborhood" to encourage community interaction.
  • Provide water, sewer, natural gas, electricity, highspeed internet, TV at each site.
  • Provide buildings space and support for town-based enterprises.
  • Provide space for town-based agricultural projects and enterprises.
  • Continue to expand the amenities in Tiny Towns to meet the needs of its citizens.
